Welcome to Day 3 of The Cycle, a 10-day email adventure.

I’m popping into your inbox every day between June 21-30 to talk to you about the building block numbers of 1-9, as well as our collective yearly cycle number, 10.

For paid pals, I’ll also be sending out my first diary entry tonight for Days 1-3!

As I shared in the introduction, we are going to embody number energies, and feel our way through a cycle. These words—embody, feel through—are intentional choices, hand delivered by the numbers, themselves. They want to be experienced.

If that is not something you can give to yourself and these numbers right now, that is okay! This is evergreen information. Plus, part of the initial creative download of this series was to turn it into a digital zine, so it will be there for you when you’re more available and ready.

But if you want to get to this now, or you need a little more convincing… I have chosen these dates with intention!

Today is June 23, 2026, which is a numerological 21/3 day.

Taking time out of our day to touch in with 3 energy will then allow us to go out and approach the day with new knowledge and awareness. Perhaps we’ll see opportunities and tensions we would not have before attributed to being in a 3 day. It's this awareness that can help us begin to observe new patterns, as well as make intentional changes.

If there is one thing my Clinical Psychology program has instilled in me, it’s that it takes a combination of awareness and action to create intentional change. We have to have both clarity and courage to get what we want, but also what we need. To have the experiences we need to have in order to be living, breathing, blinking, loving, human beings on this planet, who are unafraid, in 2026, to still claim some kind of life.

It’s with this creative spirit, and devotion to living, that we meet the number three.

THANK YOU FOR READING COMMON DENOMINATORS

I want to grow this space, so if you’re liking what you’re reading, please consider sharing it with a friend or five! I’m also tending to this goal through 1-on-1 numerology readings, new shop offerings, and other upcoming goodies.

I’m also going to be sending updates of my own process to my paid pals, as well as starting a thread in The Commons for those who wish to share. So, if you do want to engage in the present-tense, you’re welcomed to upgrade your subscription here to read and join!

THREE (3)

Three comes onto the scene with a whimper and a bang.

The number three has no interest in being placid or quiet. It wants to scream and shout, and let it all out, and it wants to do it with flair!

Filled to the brim with feeling, our physical bodies have no choice but to spill over, our every orifice emitting sound and smell and spit and statements. Three is the birth of the physical—babies, language, and artwork, oh my! It’s bloody and beautiful and rips apart the calm connections of the number two.

The Pythagoreans called three the first real number.

One is being.

Two is feeling.

Three is expressing.

It’s the messy work of formulation and articulation. Though it’s a mental number, three resides in the mouth’s lips, tongue, and teeth, as well as the throat. It wrestles what is wordless into finite syllables, which can never truly hold the Whole of what it seeks to give voice to.

Yet, that’s the Good Work.

Three is the all-night phone call and marathon messaging session. It’s sitting by the campfire and telling stories; browsing the world’s largest library. Three is the buzzing at the nape of your neck when you realize how you want to word something, or you hear something that resonates, or the sacred art of communication and understanding otherwise tickles your available, feeling fancy.

Three babbles and brays, and twists and tweaks, making adjustments and revisions, transforming to hold the truth a little closer. It is yes, no, and maybe, all rolled into one invitation to wrangle the impossible into something digestible.

PROMPT: Think about your favorite writer, poet, lyricist or stand-up comic. What about their word choices speak to you? How do they use language to incite and/or inspire? Now consider your own work, and how you speak to others. What do you make of yourself as a weaver of words?

Out of the false binary of the number two comes the secret third thing.

Three is tricky. It’s cheeky. It says, bet you didn’t see me coming, did you? It calls your bluff. In mythology, figures that align with the number three are tricksters and riddlers as much as they are guides and guardians. Can you take their wisdom at face value? Or is there a spin on it? An obfuscation? A play on words?

This energy requires your flexibility, your imagination, and your very life-force energy. Committing yourself to the art of making [art, new life, a go at it, the best of it] will take everything you’ve got and then some, and it still won’t guarantee you anything more than right here, right now.

Life as it comes, is the very domain of the number three. Luckily, that doesn’t require a whole lot more than what’s already been asked of us: presence.

Page 111 (3) of Eliza Swann’s brilliant new book, The Alchemical Imagination, explores the Taoist concept of “nonaction” or “effortless action,” saying:

“It does not imply passivity; instead, it refers to the art of aligning with the flow of life, allowing things to unfold without unnecessary force of resistance. It represents a state of acting in harmony with the Tao, or the natural order, where movement is spontaneous, fluid, and in tune with the world’s rhythms.

In this state, there is a profound sense of ease, akin to a river flowing effortlessly around obstacles… This illuminates the practice of achieving more by doing less—recognizing that true wisdom and effectiveness come from being present… It embodies the paradox that we often achieve the best results by letting go.”

(Three also steals like an artist. Sometimes someone’s already said it better, so why not borrow from them and then give credit where credit is due?)

PRACTICAL MAGIC: No matter what you think about the Wiccans and their rules of three, they got it right when they tapped into three being a magic number. Repetition helps us to remember, so see how many ways you can incorporate three into your day today. Stir or shake your drink three times. Brush your teeth for three minutes instead of two. Give your beloveds three kisses: one on each cheek before moving to their lips. Call a friend and say their name three times at the top as an invocation. Make a list of three things you’re grateful for or looking forward to.

One asked us to be available. Two filled that space with feelings. Three wants us to attempt to communicate just what the fuck is going on.

Three is an easy, generative energy. It's creative energy turned outward. It’s manifestation of the liminal into the physical. It allows us to communicate, which amplifies our connections. It helps us to find flow and belonging and release.

Three is the experience of expressing.

This is active! This is doing! This is the moment you might have been waiting for!

Today is for expressing.

Three (3) through the Senses

Three (3) looks like swinging your legs off the mattress and planting your feet on the floor, going for a walk, writing for any length of time, reading a biography of a beloved figure, walking up on-stage to do an improv comedy show, attending a community theatre production of a classic musical, a trinity of crows sitting on telephone wire

Three (3) smells like leather-bound dictionaries, fresh garlic sizzling in oil, wildfire smoke, the spritz of perfume on a mailed love letter

Three (3) tastes like Neapolitan ice cream, slippery elm throat lozenges, a ripe peach in the middle of summer, a turkey leg at a renaissance festival, a cup of lemonade from a child’s sidewalk stand

Three (3) feels like pre-show jitters as you wait in the wings, putting your insides on the outside, the sensation of surprise and delight, the rough surface of sodalite, the rapid fire needling of the tattoo gun, the itch of a bug bite, the cool caress of pool water on a hot, sunny day, the liminal moments directly following a talk therapy session

Three (3) sounds like a bright peal of laughter, the pop of champagne and the clink of the glasses—Cheers!, the strum of a guitar, a phone ringing in a quiet theatre, the aural blur of flipping through television or radio channels, a cheer performed by a pep squad

Three (3) asks questions like How do you characterize your voice? What words or phrases sound like you? Do you feel as if you have the right words to express yourself? If not, how might you go about getting even 3% closer to an accurate description?

CREATIVE CYCLING: This is the day you get a little messy with it. This is still not the day you finish, but also it could be? Make a list of all of your favorite adjectives or verbs. If you’re stuck on a scene or bit of dialogue, make your character(s) do something surprising, and see what it unlocks! Don’t ruin your canvas, but add a secret splash of something just for you. Experiment with a new joke. Put something down and pick something else up. If output is too frustrating, focus on input.

Three (3) on the Scale

Three (3) Day: Write freehand in your journal for 30 minutes.

Three (3) Week: Carve out time to work on your passion project(s) on at least 3 days.

Three (3) Month: Try something new style-wise and commit to it for 28-31 days, respectively.

Three (3) Year: Create a monthly ritual where you take a friend out for a conversation. You can switch up the venue and the company every month if you’d like, but make sure you’re drinking something tasty and yapping away for at least an hour.

PROMPT: Talking is a huge part of the experience of the number three, but so is listening. Active listening is the practice of taking in what someone is saying, not just to hear them, but to truly understand what it is they’re trying to get across. It’s attuning to their body language, using empathy to put yourself in their shoes, and receiving their message with compassion and curiosity. Try it today, especially in moments you might not otherwise be fully present in, such as interactions with cashiers, waiters, and other service providers.

Until tomorrow, just express.

I’d love to hear from you as we go, especially if you have ideas to make our journey even juicier! And if you enjoy what you’re reading, please share it with a friend or five. I’m also going to be sharing excerpts on my Instagram, @beescolnick. Engagement and shares are appreciated there too, but I understand it’s not a platform for everyone. (I’m doing an experiment of my own right now and it’s been telling.)

xx bee
