Happy Friday! Real talk: I’ve been depressed!
You know that feeling when you’ve just been hanging on for so long? And you’ve been so good? You’ve done everything that’s been asked of you, risen to every challenge, bobbed and weaved with every change of plan and pace, AND YET??? The hits just keep on coming???
Anyway, this list is as much to remind myself to not judge my joys as it is to perhaps offer some of them to you—especially the first entry, which is shameless self- and community promotion, but spoiler alert: The Rebis - The Devil is now available for pre-order and just one look at the cover will prove it’s worth your time and dollars—if you’re in your own dark fucking night of the soul.
Sending you love, wherever you are.
THE FRIDAY FIVE 🖐️
Here’s what’s gotten me through this wacky week:
Getting to see the cover of THE REBIS: THE DEVIL by the brilliant Xaviera López: I love , I love its HWIC , and I love The Devil issue’s guest editor Meg Jones Wall, and I love everything about the list of contributors! What a joy and an honor it is to be included in such creative community! This launch is such a reminder that seeds planted in the dark come to the light at the right time. I’m so grateful! Snag your copy now, duh!!!

LANDSCAPES: I know someone reading this is like, “Bee, shut UP about Landscapes!” However, I cannot! This online group of writers has been an important constant in my life for a little over a year, and am officially a “trusty sub” for facilitator-extraordinaire Cody Cook-Parrott. This week, I wrapped up two-and-a-half weeks holding that space, we had a Show and Tell moment, and it really fueled my inner fires. If you’d like to join our wild, but wonderful space, you can try it for free next week, September 8-14. The link is live, but wait to sign up until Monday the 8th so you get the full free week! Okay? Okay. See you there! (Ps. I’m subbing again, and hosting a workshop, in October, so it’s a great time to join!)
[*knocks on your digital door*] “Have you heard The Good News? Romance Novels exist!!!!”: If you’re a member of SMUT CLUB—and if you’re not… why? Email me at [email protected] to join!—then you know I have been coping with out of control life circumstances by shoving painfully heterosexual books in my gaping maw. Recently, I've devoured OVERRULED by LANA FERGUSON (opposing-counsel-to-hate-hookups-to-lovers, SPICY SPICY, 4 stars), PROBLEMATIC SUMMER ROMANCE by ALI HAZELWOOD (age gap and won't let you forget about it, SPICY but the MMC gave me the ick, 3.5 stars but only because this is a sequel to a book I actually liked and those characters were also in this one), and OUT ON A LIMB by HANNAH BONAM-YOUNG (two disabled MCs, one-night stand results in a pregnancy plot, SPICY AND FLUFFY AND COZY, 4.5 stars), and the last two books in the LOVELIGHT FARMS series by B.K. BORISON: MIXED SIGNALS (dating pact between mutual piners, she’s never had an orgasm with a partner before!!!! 4.25 stars) and BUSINESS CASUAL (one night to get it out of their systems—Sure, Jan—and no third act break-up, 4.5 stars). Next up, I’m going back to gay with AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES by PAGE POWARS, but if you want to read any of my recent reads, check out my Bookshop list!
Candy Crush: Y’all, I am not a gamer. I am even less of a phone gamer. I am married to a phone gamer though, and she looked at me the other day with a lot of gentleness and said, “I know where you are…” Because I’ve been glued to my phone, running up my screen time hours, playing endless levels of Candy Crush like it’s 2012. Why? Ask my therapist. (She actually said it’s fine to let my brain unwind with games when I’ve been through Trauma.) Anyway… it’s fun to watch things explode and also one day soon I will delete this blasted app!
Chocolate Chip Clif Bars: I’m sure they’re actually terrible for you and obviously they are not a substitute for real nutrition, but I am bad at feeding myself and these little babies just appeal on a level I cannot understand. This week, they’ve been a tiny treat and sometimes the only thing I can stomach before dinnertime. Thank goodness they exist, and thank goodness Trader Joe’s carries them by the box!
