Hello my friend, it’s June 5, 2026, an overall 21/3 day that’s ripe for reflection, culminations, and telling yourself good job when you notice your own progress.
I am in the final week of the third quarter of grad school and am so excited for a three-week breather before starting the next batch of classes. If that’s not a lived experience of 21/3 energy, I don’t know what is!
Besides getting to read materials of my choosing—though I am excited to share some assigned resources in my next Learn-Along—I’m looking forward to doing some readings (more below!) and putting together some snail mail for beloveds both in The Commons and not. My sticker collection is getting out of hand, so everyone get ready to receive at least one member of the Belcher family from Bob’s Burgers, and other ridiculous images.
I’m also writing novel words again, which is thrilling and tender. I have to actively work to not get bogged down in the grief of all the books I’ve wanted to write/finish/publish over the last few years, and instead take my own advice and focus on what’s possible. But I’m doing it, and I’m letting my process be messy. A huge thank you to the SM*T CL*B members doing 1,000 Words of Summer—I love our thread and daily check-ins!
Lately, I’ve been feeling as if I’m in the right place at the right time, and now I’ll add with the right people. I’m so grateful to be alive to love and be loved. I hope whatever part of you is able to open to that same feeling can do so today, if even just for a breath. If not, that’s okay too. You can always try again tomorrow.
Regardless, I have not arrived at this feeling place by myself, which is what The Friday Five is all about. May this list inspire you to find your own pockets of whimsy along what can be a perilous road of life.
Here’s what’s gotten me through this wacky week:

THE FRIDAY FIVE

TELEVISION, OKAY? TELEVISION — Besides the triumphant return of Love Island USA (Peacock), which has already gifted us with moments like Kenzie thinking the moon sign in astrology describes how a person feels at night, I have been getting daily doses Couples Therapy (Showtime) and Pop Culture Jeopardy (Netflix) for a few weeks as well. It’s a good blend of modern toxicity and aged wisdom, and the combination of Ariana Madix, Orna Guralnik, PsyD, and Colin Jost has brought me a great deal of joy this week.
A SPOUSAL SPELL ON THE FULL MOON IN SAG — If you listen to Call Your Coven, I’ve shared before that my wife isn’t really all that witchy. However, life is long and interests shift, and she’s starting to come around to some spiritual practices! On Sunday’s full moon in Sagittarius, which lit up my 1h and her 7h, we did a ritual together! There were some shared elements, such as tossing rice into a bowl of water and speaking aloud things we wanted to release, but we also had our own separate actions as well, like writing down different things before coming back together to burn whatever needed to meet the fire. Overall, it was so special to share it together, and the feelings it evoked have lasted throughout the week, and will continue to ripple out into our futures. So be it, so it is!
WATCHING MOVIES WITH FRIENDS — Yes, I watch movies in addition to all of the television I consume, which some could say is indicative of a problem. But you see, movies are also an important social gathering in my life! I’m in a Monday Movie Club with local friends who are also AMC A-Listers, and so far we’ve seen 18 movies in theatres in 2026! (I track them on Letterboxd if you want to follow along.) This week, we saw Obsession, and not only have had so much fun, but have sent voice notes about it back and forth every day since! Then, my online friends and I have watched movies together almost weekly for the last four years! This week, we watched Bend it Like Beckham, which is still delightful all these years later, even if the girls don’t kiss.
PULLING TAROT CARDS FOR BOOKS I’M READING — This calendar year, in addition to tracking my books read on StoryGraph, I’ve been pulling tarot cards for each book and using them as bookmarks while reading so I continue to consider its meaning along the way. I’ve been noting observations in a journal that a pal brought back from Florence for me, which has the same duomo on the cover that I have tattooed on the back of a snail on my leg, and the whole thing reminds me of the saying Slow faith. It’s all a lovely reminder to slow down, pay attention, let my mind enjoy and wander, and it’s been a fun practice!
LOOKING AHEAD — For the first time in maybe ever, I have the rough draft of a five year plan. Now obviously I don’t think you need one, or even think that it’s truly possible to plan five years in the future when the present moment is shifting the world at a rapid speed, but I digress. This week, it’s been lovely to know what I’m going to be doing for at least the next couple of years, and to use that knowledge to start to fill in some blanks on the schedule, and make new plans. It’s very much in the making lists and daydreaming phase, and who knows how much will actually come to fruition, but it’s done wonders for my week, and I’m excited to keep musing on it in the weeks to come!
please help common denominators grow by sending to a friend (or five)!
